Upgrade Wordpress using Fantastico
I will be changing the theme. Adiis Gazette theme was nice but parts of it weren’t working and I didn’t like how having a non-functioning theme looked. At least I didn’t pay for it, instead I won it in a contest.
NOTE: This only works if you installed your blog using Fantastico! Click on screenshots to see the full sized image.
Now, I am going to say something about upgrading. Sure, there are those plugins for automatic upgrading but there is an easier way if your blog was installed using Fantastico rather than an uploading of files.
To do this go into your blogs cpanel, click on the blue smiley face. (see screenshot 1).
This will take you into your websites Fantastico control panel, scroll down and click on wordpress (see screenshot 2) And as you can see in the screenshot, there will also be a notice about any installations that need to be upgraded. You could do it from here if you like by clicking “Upgrade to 2.6”. But if you would rather do it through the installations panel so you can be sure it is Wordpress, read on.
There will be a list of all the Wordpress installations that you have made through Fantastico, and as you can see in the screenshot I have also installed Wordpress on gettinpersonal.net which is my personal blog. (see screenshot 3)
The main installation, which means it is the installation that is installed on your main domains root directory is just a slash, as circled in the screenshot.
Click on Upgrade to 2.6 and you can ignore all the “Only if” because they have no effect on your theme or other stuff. Click on “Upgrade”, and boom! Your upgrade is complete!

I have two hosting accounts, one has fantastico, and one does not. I love fantastico for upgrades, it is so easy!

Oh I didn’t know I could do that with Fantastico…Isn’t this going to easier but what about the active plugins., are they going to be deactivated prior to the upgarde?

PS: This is definitely a better theme than the previous one. Great choice, Emma.
